Etude House Play 101 Pencils 4, 8, 13 and 50
I first bought Etude House Play 101 Pencils in shades 12 and 16 (reviewed here), then went back for shades 3, 15 and 25 (reviewed here). I got really smitten with these pencils that I vowed to collect them all. All the colors that appeal to me, that is. I have also recently reviewed shades 27 and 41 here. Now, I’m reviewing my recently purchased Etude House Play 101 Pencils in shades 4, 8, 13 and 50.

Etude House Play 101 Pencil 4

Etude House Play 101 Pencil 4

Etude House Play 101 Pencil #4 is a very light pink with silver glitters. As it has a glitter finish, it is recommended for use as an eye shadow or eye liner. It has a smooth texture and it glides easily without tugging on the eyes. The glitters are not too chunky therefore the finish is very pretty and there are minimal, if any, fallouts.

Even without a primer, Etude House Play 101 Pencil #4 didn’t smudge. It dries quite fast, so you’ll have to be quick if you need to blend it before it completely sets. On my oily lids, Etude House Play 101 Pencil #4 didn’ t crease at all and was surprisingly long-lasting.

I love using Etude House Play 101 Pencil #4 as a light wash of color for the entire eye lid area, as well as on the undereye area. It can also be used just as a highlight to the inner corner of the eye as well as the inner 1/3 of the undereye area. This can help brighten the overall look of your eye makeup. It lasts around 6 to 7 hours on me and it was very easy to remove using an eye makeup remover.

Etude House Play 101 Pencil 8

Etude House Play 101 Pencil 8

Etude House Play 101 Pencil #8 has a matte finish and it is recommended for use as a base or as an eye shadow. It is a warm-toned light beige that can be used as an eyeshadow base. I have only used it as a concealer though, and I must say that it really delivers.

Etude House Play 101 Pencil #8 is very easy to use as a concealer. Before I bought this, my favorite concealer was NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. But that one is a hassle to apply especially because I don’t apply it directly and still use a brush. With the Etude House Play 101 Pencil #8, I can apply it directly on my dark spots, blend a bit, and it’s done! It also applies smoothly and is quite pigmented. It dries fairly fast and is also long-lasting. It lasts around 8 to 9 hours on me, which is usually until the time I remove my entire makeup. 😉

Etude House Play 101 Pencil 13

Etude House Play 101 Pencil 13

Etude House Play 101 Pencil #13 is a bright orange with gold glitters. Even though it has a glitter finish, it is recommended for use not just as an eyeshadow but also as a blush or even for the lips. At first, I had only used it on the lips. But later tested it on my cheeks as well, then finally used it as an eyeshadow. Play 101 Pencil #13 looks really cool however I use it.

Etude House Play 101 Pencil #13 has a smooth texture and it glides easily without tugging on the lips. The glitters are not too chunky therefore the finish is very pretty. It is a shimmery golden orange on the lips that will look great as a highlight for the center of the lips to add dimension and fullness. When used for the whole lips, it looks glamorous and reminds me of those MAC lipsticks that seem golden bronze on the lips. However, Etude House Play 101 Pencil #13 is a much wearable color than the MAC ones. If you’re planning on wearing it as a full-on lipcolor, I recommend applying a lipbalm underneath it because it tends to be a bit drying due to the micro glitters. It sets quickly and lasts around 4 to 5 hours on my lips.

When used lightly as a blush, it looks gorgeous as well. The micro shimmers do not accentuate the pores and application is a breeze. I just draw a few lines where I want my blush, then quickly and gently blend. It only lasts around 4 to 5 hours on my cheeks, but that’s probably because I only apply a little amount.

I love using Etude House Play 101 Pencil #13 as an eyeshadow. Much like Play 101 Pencil #27, it applies smoothly and doesn’t tug on my eyes. It dries quite fast, so you’ll have to be quick if you need to blend it before it completely sets. On my oily lids, Etude House Play 101 Pencil #13 didn’ t crease at all and was surprisingly long-lasting. It lasts around 7 to 8 hours on me and it was very easy to remove using an eye makeup remover.

Etude House Play 101 Pencil 50

Etude House Play 101 Pencil 50

Etude House Play 101 Pencil #50 has a creamy finish and it is recommended for use as an eye shadow or eye liner. It is a dark brown with no shimmers at all. Because of this, I like using it as an eyeliner or tightliner. I love glittery and shimmery eyeshadows but for eyeliners, I often prefer matte, creamy or non-glittery liners. I still use glittery eyeliners sometimes, though. 😉

Etude House Play 101 Pencil 50

Etude House Play 101 Pencil #50 applies smoothly and glides easily along my upper waterline. It is very pigmented so I don’t have to repeat the process just to make sure that the color is really evident. Before it dries, it smudges easily so it can also be used for smokey eye makeup. Once it dries though, you’ll be surprised that it doesn’t budge at all. Etude House 101 Pencil #50 dries fairly fast and is very long-lasting even on my oily lids.

For daytime makeup, Etude House Play 101 Pencil #50 is my current favorite tightliner. I also sometimes wing out my eyeliner for added drama. It lasts around 7 to 8 hours on me and it was also very easy to remove using a regular eye makeup remover.

Etude House Play 101 Pencils 4, 8, 13, 50

The Etude House Play 101 Pencils come with a built-in sharpener at the other end of the pencil. To get more product out, all you have to do is twist the colored part at the end of the pencil where the sharpener is housed. Then use the hidden sharpener if you need to sharpen the tip.

I bought these Play 101 Pencils from Etude House in Robinsons Manila for Php348 each. These are really great products that are so versatile and super easy to use. I highly recommend for you to check them out if you haven’t yet.

Yesterday was the last day of the Etude House Hello New Year Sale, so I was able to buy 8 more shades at 20% off. I gave 1 to my sister-in-law who visited earlier today. She was so ecstatic when I showed her the Play 101 Pencils and told her how versatile these pencils are. At only 18, she is still just a newbie at makeup and was intrigued when I showed her how to do tightlining. So I gave her my newly purchased shade 50 so she can practice tightlining her eyes. It was supposed to be my backup, but I’ll just buy another one. I’m just glad to have made her really happy. 😉

Do you have an Etude House store in your country? If not, how do you order Etude House products if you do? What are your thoughts on the Etude House Play 101 Pencils? 🙂
